here’s what happened:
Somewhere along the way, we got duped into believing that our job is to play nice, stay small, and be as quiet as possible; we started believing the lie that we’re here to make everyone else comfortable.
They told us to start believing that familiar = comfortable.
That asking for what we wanted and needed was selfish. Boring. High-maintenance.
They taught us to hate the sounds of our voices—both individual and collective.
They showed us that effortless, low-maintenance “beauty” was the path to love.
That we are a problem to be solved.
And that it was okay to bully ourselves into living our best life.
And I’m calling bullshit.
